Are there any physical requirements for the trips?

Do you want to lie in a hammock until cocktail hour and not move? We have a trip planned for that. Do you want to climb a mountain at a high altitude? We have a trip planned for that as well. Each of our trips comes with a Physical Rating to let you know how physically demanding it is... or isn't, so you can decide what type of trip is best for you.

Is it possible to go on a family trip with Intrepid?



Intrepid offers a diverse range of Family Adventures all over the world. The minimum age (for Family trips) varies by destination, and Intrepid has established minimum ages to ensure that the included activities are appropriate for each age range. Furthermore, some of the more adventurous destinations have a higher minimum age. For more information, please see our family adventures.

Who are the daring adventurers?

Intrepid adventures are designed for travellers who want to get off the beaten path. Whether you're travelling alone, with a group of friends, or are between the ages of 18 and 70, there's an Intrepid adventure to suit your interests and level of comfort. Each Intrepid adventure is graded physically and culturally to help you decide if the trip is right for you. Most adventures require no special skills other than a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world. Even on our camping trips, no prior experience is required; our tents are simple to set up, even for first-time campers.

How many people will be joining me on my trip?


Because good things come in small packages, we keep our group sizes small. This means we're small enough to be adaptable as we pass through communities without frightening the locals. On most of our trips, you'll be part of a small group of 12-16 people, though our average group size is 10. Our Overland trips are conducted in purpose-built vehicles that can accommodate up to 24 passengers. The number of people in each group is shown on the overview page of each trip on our website.


Is there an age limit on your trips?

The minimum age for the majority of our trips is 15. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The minimum age for our Overland Adventures is 18. Younger children are welcome to join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but please check the website for the minimum age for each trip, which is listed on the trip's overview page. Most of our trips have no upper age limit, but all passengers aged 70 and up must complete a Self-Assessment Form.

Who will be the leader of my group?

While we cannot reveal your leader's identity prior to departure, we can assure you that they will be fantastic. Some of our leaders are experts in their regions because they've been travelling there for years, while others are locals who can't wait to show you around. On longer journeys or those that take you through more than one country, you may have to change leaders halfway through – but this just means twice the awesomeness.

Can I only do a portion of the trip?

Although you will not be reimbursed for any unused portion of the trip, you may sign off the trip if you need to leave a day or two earlier. If you notify us ahead of time that you will be arriving late or need to depart before the trip ends, we will notify our team on the ground to best accommodate your needs.

Can I make changes to my group trip's itinerary before or during the trip?

Please double-check your group trip itinerary before booking, as we are unable to change it for individual travellers. If you and a group of friends, colleagues, or even your school want your own personally designed itinerary, contact our very talented Private Groups; they can tailor an itinerary just for you.

Can I add an extra night before or after my group trip, either before or during the trip?

You most certainly can. Simply inquire with your travel specialist at the time of booking.





Is it okay if I travel alone?

This is the beauty of the Intrepid travel style: many of our travellers join because they are travelling alone and want to meet and share experiences with other travellers. Learn more here.


Will I be charged a single supplement if I travel alone?

As a solo traveller, you will be paired with another passenger of the same gender based on the information in your passport. If you do not want to share a room with someone of the same gender, you can pay for a single supplement (available on the majority of our trips).

If you do not identify with the gender assigned to your passport, please let us know at the time of booking, and we will make arrangements for you.

Will my special dietary requirements be accommodated?

We will do our best to accommodate all dietary requirements, but in some remote locations, this may be difficult to guarantee. We will notify you if this is the case in any of the locations on your itinerary. Please notify us of any food restrictions or allergies at the time of booking, and we will pass this information on to your leader. It's also a good idea to bring a card with your dietary needs written in the local language for when you're eating away from the group.

How will the food be on my trip?

One of the most exciting aspects of travel is the food. There will be some familiar fare, but you will also be confronted with the new, interesting, and downright strange of the culinary world, which we like to think of as an adventure for all the senses. Furthermore, our flexible itineraries frequently allow you to eat with the group or go off on your own, which means you can eat to suit any budget or desire.

Can I drink the water in the countries where I travel?
